Sailing Vessel Bliss Currently berthed in Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico, "Bliss" is a 1973 Morgan Out Island 33 sloop. Designed by Charlie Morgan in 1972 and built by Morgan Yachts, she has a solid fiberglass hull and a deck built of a sandwich of glass and marine plywood. Morgan designed and built a series of this shoal draft boat, the 41 foot O/I being by far the most popular. Despite the full shoal keel with a cutaway forefoot, the O/I series successfully competes in yacht races on both coasts of the US. See the Morgan Yacht Owners Group on the web. If you're familiar with these vessels, you will notice our departure from the normal color scheme we based the accent color on Sunbrella's Persian Green, and painted over the worn sky blue non-skid with sand and sand colored topside paint. See Projects for detail photos and the joys of performing this job under Mexico's blistering sun. (But it still beats the office!) Also see some other modifications I felt were necessary for this boat. This is my home for the winter & spring months of each year! |
