In the fall of 1997 the two of us (Jim and Bliss) sailed our Morgan sloop "Bliss" down the Petaluma River, through San Francisco Bay and under the Golden Gate bridge. This initial jouney took them down the coast of California to Baja, Mexico with stops at Turtle Bay, Bahia Santa Maria and Cabo San Lucas.

(Our longest trip prior to this journey was a 25 mile sail from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay, California.)

After a brief stop in Cabo for refueling and reprovisioning, we sailed north to La Paz and spent almost two months anchored in Bahia La Paz, enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and excitement of this international city.

On New Years Day 1998, we departed La Paz and sailed south to Bahia de las Muertos in preparation for our crossing the Sea of Cortez to Mazatlan. The crossing was a wonderful overnight sail with the constellation of Orion hovering over our destination.

After 38 hours we dropped sail and motored into the main ship harbor in Mazatlan at 1 am and a much needed night of sleep.

Our adventures in Mexico had just begun...
